Released in 2017, Rima Das transformed the simple dream of a young girl owning a guitar into a tender portrait of childhood, poverty and possibility. Bhanita Das plays Dhunu, a spirited girl growing up in rural Assam who becomes determined to form a band despite having little more than imagination and a group of friends around her. Village Rockstars finds beauty in everyday life without romanticising the hardships its characters face. Beneath Dhunu’s dream is a film about resilience, freedom and the quiet determination to want something more, even when the world around you offers very little.
